Blueberry-Strawberry Shortcakes

Let's give an iconic summer dessert an extra fruity boost with this blueberry-strawberry shortcake! It's perfect for all your backyard summer parties.

 Ingredients

Shortcakes Flour White sugar Baking powder & salt Butter Buttermilk Plus, our berries, Grand Marnier (optional), orange zest and cinnamon for the fruity topping.

1

Toss strawberries, blueberries, sugar, Grand Marnier (if using), orange zest and cinnamon together. Let sit for at least 20 minutes or up to a day.

2

Stir together flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Add the grated butter and stir just until the butter is incorporated.

3

Pour buttermilk on top of flour mixture. Stir just until combined -- you don't want to overwork the dough. The dough will look crumbly like so.

4

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface. Gently use your hands, to combine the dough and pat the dough into a 1-inch-thick rectangle.

5

Fold the left side to the middle and then the right side on top like folding a letter to create more flaky layers.

6

We flatten the folded dough, rotate and repeat again three times. This helps create lots of wonderful layers.

7

We cut our the dough into circles with a cookie cutter, brush with more buttermilk and bake in a 450-degree oven.

8

As the last step, we whip together heavy cream, sugar and vanilla -- just like that, we have our decadent whipped cream!

Now we assemble the shortcakes and enjoy every delicious bite of this perfect summer dessert! Everyone will love this fruity treat.
