  • 1 teaspoon fresh orange zest
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

Gingerbread Simple Syrup

  • In a small saucepan, add the water, ginger, dark brown sugar, molasses, orange zest, cinnamon, cloves and allspice. Stir to combine. Over medium-high heat, bring to a boil. Stir every so often to help dissolve the sugar.
  • When the mixture boils and the sugar dissolves, turn off the heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Allow to steep for at least 15 minutes.
  • Strain the syrup to separate the solids. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for several weeks.

Gingerbread Mule Cocktail

  • In a copper mug, add the bourbon or preferred spirit, gingerbread simple syrup, lime juice and a handful of ice.
  • Using a bar spoon, stir until condensation builds on the glass, about 15-20 seconds.
  • Pour in the chilled ginger beer. Gently stir to combine.
  • If desired, garnish with the cinnamon stick and rosemary sprig. Enjoy!

Notes

Eight-serving pitcher: Add 2 cups bourbon or preferred spirit, 1 cup gingerbread simple syrup, ½ cup lime juice and a handful or two of ice to a large pitcher. Stir for about 15-20 seconds. Use a slotted spoon to remove any remaining ice. Cover and refrigerator up to 24 hours. Right before serving, gently pour 6 cups chilled ginger beer into the pitcher.
  • For the best flavor, don't swap bottled lime juice for freshly squeezed lime juice.
  • Pick limes that have some give when you press into them.
