Instructions
Apple Spice Simple Syrup
Add the sugar, water, apple slices and spices to a saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring to a low boil, stirring to dissolve the sugar.
When the sugar dissolves, let the simple syrup steep. At least 10 minutes is good, but it's even better if you can give it 30 minutes to an hour.
Strain and chill. Transfer to an airtight container and store in the refrigerator.
Spiced Apple Espresso Martini
On a small shallow plate, pour some extra syrup in the center. On another plate, mix together the ground cinnamon and sugar. Swirl the rim of the martini glass in the syrup and then dip evenly into the cinnamon-sugar mixture. If you don't have extra apple syrup to spare, you can use water or maple syrup. Place in the freezer as you prepare the rest of the drink.
Pour the espresso, apple vodka, apple spice simple syrup and Kahlua into a cocktail shaker. Place the cocktail shaker in the freezer and allow it to chill for five to 10 minutes. Remove the cocktail shaker from the freezer and add a handful of ice. Secure the top and shake vigorously for 30-45 seconds.
Strain into a chilled martini glass.
If desired, garnish with coffee beans or an apple slice. Enjoy!
Notes
8-serving pitcher: Stir together 2 cups espresso, 2 cups apple vodka, 1 cup apple spice simple syrup and ½ cup Kahlua in a pitcher. Cover and refrigerate for up to several hours. Stir again, pour 5.5 ounces (slightly less than ¾ cup) per drink into a cocktail shaker and shake as originally directed.
1 ounce of apple simple syrup will give you a more apple-forward martini. If you prefer a more espresso-forward martini with a touch of apple, use ½ ounce.
