Ingredient Notes

Apples: I like to use Honeycrisp apples, but any variety will work.

Sugar: White sugar is my go-to to all the apple flavor to shine.

Spices: For this recipe, I love cinnamon sticks, whole cloves and ground cardamom. That said, you're welcome to add other baking spices as well. Some fresh ginger would also make a nice addition.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: We add sugar, water, apples and spices to a small saucepan and bring the mixture to a boil.

Step 2: Now we turn off the heat and allow the mixture to steep.

Step 3: All that’s left is to strain and chill. Our easy apple syrup is ready to use!

How to Use

Simple syrup is most often used for drinks, so here are a few ideas for a little inspiration. After all, we like drinks around these parts.

  • Spiced apple espresso martini
  • Apple French 76 (bonus points for using an apple-infused vodka)
  • Apple old fashioned
  • Apple mule
  • Apple latte

Of course, you don’t have to only use this syrup for drinks. Try these other ways to enjoy the syrup.

  • Stir it into oatmeal.
  • Brush it on a vanilla cake for added moisture and flavor.
  • Use in a yogurt parfait.
  • Drizzle over pancakes, waffles, or even ice cream.
  • Add to a fruit salad.

Favorite Tips

  • Shake before using: The spices have a tendency to settle as it sits.
  • Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator to prevent spoilage: With proper storage, it should last a good three weeks at least.
  • Allow to cool before refrigerating: This prevents crystallization.
  • Keep the syrup in a squeeze bottle: I find this makes it less messy when I'm measuring for cocktails.

Perfect Pairing

This comes down to how you’d like to use the syrup. Let’s say you’re planning a fall brunch. You can add this spiced apple simple syrup to an espresso martini and pair it with these apple cinnamon rolls.

For your main course, add the syrup to your old fashioned and serve with these apple cider short ribs or apple cider pot roast.

And for dessert, you can make an apple bourbon sour and serve with these apple shortcakes.

Let’s make it a festive fall with all things apple. This spiced apple syrup is the perfect way to add a touch fall to your favorite drinks and sweet treats.

Cheers!
