Get Tropical With Passion Fruit Daiquiris
For those times you need a cocktail that transports you to a beach vacation, reach for some passion fruit purée, and you’ll have yourself the perfect tropical cocktail. This passion fruit daiquiri proves it.
Whether you want to make this daiquiri shaken or frozen comes down to personal preference. While most people think of frozen cocktails when they hear “daiquiri,” a traditional daiquiri is actually shaken. That’s my personal favorite way to enjoy this drink. But you can’t go wrong with a frozen passion fruit daiquiri either, and it definitely gives you those fancy beach resort vibes.
Oh, and while we’re at it, you might enjoy a few more passion fruit drinks to add to your summer cocktail menu. You’ll also love these refreshing options.
Ingredients
White rum: White rum is classic for daiquiris. Save the dark rum for my Painkiller or Barbados rum punch.
Lime juice: Freshly squeezed please. Bottled juice doesn’t match the flavor and brightness of real lime juice.
Passion fruit purée: I love using frozen passion fruit purée. In my area, it’s difficult to find fresh passion fruits, and when you can find them, they’re ridiculously expensive. Frozen purée is delicious and surprisingly easy to find these days.
Simple syrup: I prefer to make my own simple syrup, though you can buy its. Make your own simple syrup is as easy as bringing equal parts white and sugar to a boil and stirring to dissolve the sugar.
Crushed ice: This is for frozen daiquiris. For a shaken daiquiri, we use regular ice cubes in the cocktail shaker.
How to Make
Shaken Daiquiris
Step 1: We add our passion fruit purée, lime juice, white rum, simple syrup and ice to a cocktail shaker.
Step 2: Now we secure the cocktail shaker top and give it a good shake. About 15-30 seconds is perfect.
Step 3: We remove the top and strain the daiquiri into our glass. And that’s all it takes to make a shaken passion fruit daiquiri!
Frozen Daiquiris
Step 1: We add crushed ice, rum, lime juice and passion fruit purée to a blender. If possible, use frozen passion fruit purée. It helps give a thicker texture than thawed purée, which you want in a frozen drink. I love using Pitaya frozen passion fruit purée because the purée is frozen into little cubes for easy measuring and blending.
Step 2: Now we give the blender a whirl and process until the daiquiri is nice and smooth.
Step 3: We pour that passion fruit slushy right into our glass, add some fun garnishes and drink up! Total beach vibes, right?
Sip on more daiquiris: If you love a good daiquiri, make sure you also try my peach daiquiri and raspberry daiquiri. It's truly the best drink for rum lovers!
Expert Tips
Use crushed ice for frozen daiquiris: Crushed ice is much easier to blend, so you get a better texture.
Chill your glasses before serving: Simply place your glasses for anywhere from five to 30 minutes in the freezer before serving.
Adjust the simple syrup to taste: I believe most people will prefer the full 1-ounce measurement of simple syrup, but if you prefer a more tart cocktail, go with ½ ounce.
Get creative: Use a ginger syrup or cream of coconut as sweetener. Try muddling jalapeño slices for a spicy kick. Add another fruit purée to the mix. You have so many options for customizing.
Batch it for parties: Daiquiris are perfect for batching. See the recipe card for full instructions and proportions.
Perfect Pairing
Clearly, you need some passion fruit treats to go with your passion fruit cocktail. Try my passion fruit cheesecake, which is made with a fresh curd. That tangy cheesecake is great with tropical fruit.
When you feel like kicking back with an island-inspired drink, you’ll turn to this passion fruit daiquiri every time. It was made for summer sipping.
Cheers!
